Clinical Methods in Obstetrics & Gynecology

by PN Nobis

The book is a comprehensive and updated textbook for both undergraduate and postgraduate students of obstetrics and gynecology. The author has discussed in this book, some practical problems faced by doctors in history taking and clinical examination of pregnant women in our society where ignorance, taboos and superstitions are prevalent. In the several textbooks available on obstetrics, methods of clinical examination and interpretation of the findings are scattered throughout. This book attempts to reproduce them together in a simple manner. This is the second edition of the previous book titled “Clinical Methods in Obstetrics”. This edition has an additional gynecological portion and hence the name has been changed to Clinical Methods in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Few more chapters of obstetrics are added and the chapters of first edition have been reviewed and elaborated. Looking back to the anatomy and physiology classes, an attempt is made to recapitulate the basics of female genital organs. Theoretical part of every chapter is reviewed before beginning the clinical examination, necessary investigations, and their interpretation. The detection and management of high-risk pregnancies, including their early referral to well-equipped hospitals whenever necessary, are very important steps to reduce the maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity rates. This book contains a chapter on “High-Risk Pregnancy” that would be of immense help to the students as well as the practicing doctors. The book is aimed at helping new comers who have just been introduced to obstetrics. The book promises to be a very informative and a useful guide for the doctors dealing with obstetric cases, particularly in rural areas.
