Abstract

The surgical treatment of polycystic ovaries to restore regular menstruation and subsequent pregnancy was first reported by Stein and Leventhal in 1935. In the literature search we did not find any data supporting this finding, but in our setup we did around 37 cases of PCOD within last 6 months, out of which uterine septum was present in 9 cases and one of the patient was found to have a didelphys uterus. This reflects a strong correlation of PCOD and uterine septum in our series, though a similar observation has not been reported by any other study. At the end of procedure a very thorough suction irrigation lavage is done. Over the last 17 years, very good late follow-up results have been seen. They could be summarized in this chapter. Laparoscopic ovarian diathermy is performed once, evaluates other fertility factors also during laparoscopy, does not require extensive monitoring in postoperative phase, minimizes the risk of hyperstimulation and hence risk of multiple pregnancies is reduced. Extensive literature reports support the beneficial response on menstrual rhythm, favorable reproductive outcome and most of these results are sustained over long periods of time.
