Abstract

Chronic pelvic pain is distressing for the patient and a frequent cause of visiting a gynecologist. The etiology is diverse, difficult to diagnose and often patients do not find pain relief by medical management. In the study, however no abnormalities were found in the laparoscopies of 65% of the patients in the surgical treatment arm and in only four of these was endometriosis diagnosed. This multidisciplinary approach resulted in significant symptomatic improvement in approximately 75% of the patients with a mean duration of follow-up of 1.6 years.
