Internal chemical indicators are placed inside the package to indicate whether the contents have been exposed to one or more of the conditions/parameters necessary for sterilization. They also indicate whether penetration of the sterilant was adequate to meet the conditions for sterilization. steam sterilization the biological indicators consist of filter paper disks or strips containing about a million spores of suitable strains of Bacillus stearothermophilus.
