Abstract

Flexion-distraction injuries and fracture dislocations of the thoracic and lumbar spine are biomechanically unstable injuries following high-velocity trauma. Evidence-based guidelines for the management of these injuries is not available due to the lack of clinical trials comparing various treatment modalities. The thoracolumbar injury classification and severity score provides treatment guidelines and is useful in this regard.
