Abstract

Pulp is a specialized connective tissue that occupies the pulp chamber. It comprises of nerves, vessels, lymph channels, etc. If leakage of chemical irritants from biomaterials or bacteria occurs it results in irritation to pulp. So during any conservative procedure protection or conservation of pup is one of utmost importance. Pulpal injury is one of the main reasons for the failure of conservative treatment. Varnish, liner or bases can be used for pulpal protection. The selection of pulp protection material is determined by: the restorative material being used and the remaining dentine thickness between the pulp and the pulpal or axial walls of the final tooth preparation.
