Abstract

Endoscopy is visualization of the interior of a viscus, space or organ with the help of a narrow telescope. In gynecology, endoscopes are used to visualize the peritoneal cavity, or the uterine cavity. Even though laparoscopy has been in practice for almost than 100 years, the use of the procedure evolved as a means for surgery only during the past few decades. Presently laparoscopic surgery can be resorted to for performing most of the gynecological procedures. It is worth remembering the great people behind the evolution of this novel technology.
