Abstract

Hysteroscopy is an endoscopic procedure that allows direct visualization of the uterine cavity and the cervical canal and thus serves for the diagnosis of intrauterine pathology as well as for surgical intervention. Although hysteroscopic procedure was first described by Pantaleoni in 1869, advances in hysteroscopy had to wait another century for technical innovations before the technique became feasible in clinical practice.
