Abstract

A gynecologist is often the first person to evaluate an infertile couple and is often expected to assess the male partner too. An understanding of the male reproductive function, its assessment and treatment modalities is expected of every practicing gynaecologist. The male partner may contribute to 30-40 % cases of infertility and he may be solely responsible in 20 % of cases.1 Introduction of micromanipulation techniques in the last decade has revolutionized the way male infertility is treated. This chapter aims to brush up the readers understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the male reproductive system and the methods of evaluating it. This will be followed by a discussion on the treatment modalities.
