The prevalence of infertility is estimated to range from 13.3 to 15%. Even though the prevalence has not increased over the past few decades, the demand for infertility care is on the rise owing to changing lifestyles. Deliberate delay in child bearing also contributes in part to this increase. Population data suggests that among the couples experiencing infertility, half will subsequently conceive without treatment. About 50% of those who do not conceive will be having primary inability to conceive and the rest will be having secondary infertility. The chance of spontaneous conception is influenced by duration of infertility, previous pregnancies and the cause of infertility.
