The book “Pulmonary Function Testing & Interpretation” mainly focuses pulmonologists, allergists, graduate students and surgeons who treat respiratory damage in patients. This book is divided into fifteen different chapters. It elaborately explains history of respiratory physiology including ancient knowledge, dark ages and early renaissance, energy and heat production and mechanics of breathing and lung volumes. Interpretation of spirometric, lung volume and diffusing capacity are usually carried in pulmonary function laboratories. Result values are associated with gender, age, and body size. This chapter explains preparatory steps for testing including setting up the equipments for measuring spirometric volumes and flow, lung volumes and transfer of carbon monoxide. The importance of spirometry, equipment calibration, spirometric measurements and selection of reference equations are also discussed.
