Abstract

Abnormal uterine bleeding can affect female of all ages. This chapter details terminology and classification of abnormal uterine bleeding followed by evaluation protocol. Pelvic ultrasound, hysteroscopy, and endometrial biopsy are important diagnostic tool. Principles of management are to diagnose type of AUB, rule out pathological condition and tailored therapy. Treatment options are symptomatic, non specific therapy, various combination and type of hormone therapy and surgical management like D and C, endometrial ablation, and hysterectomy. Postmenopausal bleeding warrants full evaluation to rule out malignancy, which is detailed in the chapter. Pathogenesis, diagnosis and management of premenstrual syndrome and dysmenorrhoea are summarized in the chapter with clear guidelines.
