Abstract

Hirsutism is excessive facial and body hairs caused by excess androgen production. This chapter details physiology of androgen hormones followed by causes, diagnostic criteria and management options of hirsutism. Benign and malignant lesions of ovary, dysfunction and tumor of adrenal gland and iatrogenic are usual causes of hirsutism. History and clinical scoring is followed by appropriately guided investigation. Role and limitation of various drugs and adjuvant treatment for hirsutism is briefed in chapter.
