Abstract

GTD are range of disease due to abnormal proliferation of placental type tissue resulting from union of egg and sperm with abnormal DNA content. Incidence, pathogenesis, risk factors are explained in the chapter followed by range of clinical presentations and diagnostic modalities. Suction curettage and follow up is main stay of treatment with option of hysterectomy and prophylactic chemotherapy in select cases. GTN can develop after GTD or nonmolar pregnancy. Metastatic sites, diagnostic criteria and evaluation, staging and management of GTN is systematically discussed in the chapter. Tailoring of chemotherapy and surgery in low and high risk cases and post treatment surveillance are important considerations.
