Abstract

Antepartum hemorrhage is one of the leading causes of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. Placenta previa and abruptio placenta are two most common causes of APH. Etiology, classification, clinical presentations, diagnostic modalities and management protocol of low lying placenta are well illustrated in the chapter. Vasa previa is uncommon but potentially dangerous complication. High suspicion and prompt cesarean is key to management. Abruptio placenta is premature separation of normally situated placenta which can cause revealed or concealed hemorrhage. Risk factors, diagnosis, complications and management of abruptio are described in the chapter. Rupture uterus is one of the dreaded complications of labor which can be spontaneous, iatrogenic or caused by scar dehiscence. Prompt diagnosis, immediate laparotomy with supportive measures save the mother.
