Abstract

Dystocia, i.e. difficult labor can be caused by abnormalities of uterine contraction, maternal passage or pelvis. Definition, diagnostic criteria, and management of protracted, arrest disorder, precipitate labor and variants of in coordinate uterine action are detailed in the chapter with diagrams and photographs. Variants of female pelvis with salient characteristics and their obstetrical significance, and methods of clinical and imaging pelvimetry are explained in text and tables.
