Abstract

This chapter is focused on operative obstetric maneuvers. Episiotomy is deliberate incision of perineum. Indications, types, technique, complications, after care and current status in obstetric practice are detailed along with photographs. Induction of labor is required at different gestational age for varying indications. Different methods for cervical ripening and augmentation of labor are described. Forceps and ventouse delivery constitutes instrumental delivery, which requires training and expertise. History, design of instrument, indications, prerequisites, technique and complications of forceps and ventouse are detailed in text, photographs and illustrations. Cesarean section is most commonly performed operative procedure in obstetrics. This chapter covers history, classification of indications of cesarean delivery, conventional and new technique of cesarean with a word of caution on maternal and fetal risk associated with cesarean section. Step wise photographs of cesarean section are asset of the chapter. Topic of vaginal birth after cesarean section is summarized in last with clear recommendations for selection of cases and management.
