Abstract

Strabismus surgery traditionally involves weakening and strengthening of muscles by recession and resection respectively. The incision is usually placed at the limbus, which forms wound, so it has to be closed by sutures. The main disadvantage of sutures is that they cause extreme foreign body sensation, inflammation, watering and discomfort because of the exposed suture knots. Besides all this, suturing itself is a time consuming process. Now-a-days many surgeons have started performing strabismus surgery through a different cul-de-sac incision which requires no sutures to close the conjunctival wound. The wound if small can be left as such and if slightly large, can be closed with the help of commercially available fibrin glue. Sutureless surgery makes the patient comfortable and speed up recovery in the postoperative period.
