Abstract

Overweight is expressed in terms of body mass index. Men gain weight age 29 to 35 years, while women at the age of 45 to 49 years of age. Genetic factors, physical inactivity, socio-economic status, eating habits, eating in between meals, preferences to sweet, refined food and saturated fats, food eaten and calories produced equivalent energy needs to be spent or else it deposits in to fat. When people have psychosocial problem, emotional disturbances depression, anxiety, frustration and loneliness they tend to eat more. Excessively obese individuals are withdrawn, self-consciousness secret eaters. Obesity has a family tendency, which runs in certain family. Due to endocrine factor where growth hormone reduces and dries thus, its deficiency causes obesity in certain people. Women do gain a lot of weight after menopause as that has a lot to do with hormones and lifestyle exercise and talking calcium can help. It takes real will power to lose weight, Watch for those high calories .Obesity places an extra burden on the heart, requiring the muscle to work harder to pump enough blood to support added tissue mass. In addition, obesity is often associated with a sedentary life style elevated serum cholesterol and high blood pressure. If one wants to achieve a weight loss of few kgs it should be done under tight discipline and authoritative governance. Obesity—has been well documented that obese parents often have obese children, parental attitude towards food and eating habits are readily passed on to their children, the nurse must help parents to understand the unique food requirements.
