Abstract

Life and death are two sides of the same coin. Life and death are transitory phases. Our physical bodies are vehicles for the soul, for its journey towards the ultimate destination, uniting with the supreme soul. Every beginning has an end and every end has a beginning. Then why fear death? Death gives meaning to human existence. Death is not something destructive. It can be viewed as one of the most constructive, positive and creative elements of culture and life. One cannot avoid the inevitability of death. Death is a mystery and no one can escape this reality of death. You do not know when, how, where, it will strike you. Death opens the doors of heaven. Body becomes one with the universe where the mother earth embraces us. Whatever we have, the money, power, prestige, belongings all one day we have to leave and go empty handed as we had come to this earth. Death does not see your age or your wealth. Life is short and momentary. Once the breath of life is gone we are zero. All have to face death equally without any exception or partiality. The poor man dies and the rich wealthy man dies. Death is like cycle of day and night which goes on the mystery of death cannot be answered. When the call comes from above person just have to leave everything and follow. Only faith, hope and religious beliefs give us consolation and strength to bear. Death is a final truth and without going through the dark night one cannot see the dawn of the morning. Body is perishable and the soul is imperishable. We are created from the earth and one day we will become one with this earth. The rising sun will have to set. Let us live every moment. As long as there is breath in the body, there is hope. Death is a part of our life. A life giving, living will– (Nani A. Palkhivala) when I die gives my sight to the man who has never seen a sunrise. Give my heart to one who has known the agony of the heart. Give my blood to a youth pulled from the wreckage of a car so that he might live to see his grandchildren play. Let my kidneys drain the poison from another’s body. Let my bones be used to make a crippled child walk. Burn what is left of me and scatter the ashes to the wind to let the flowers grow. If you bury something, let it be my faults and my prejudices against my fellowmen. Give my sins to the Devil. Give my soul to God. If you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or word to someone who needs you. If you do all I have asked, I will live forever.
