The book “The Practical Manual of Haematology” elucidates knowledge on laboratory hematology in a comprehensive manner. It can serve as quick reference for students of medical laboratory technology, pathologists and hematologists. It covers the basic aspects of hematology techniques and all the information is explained in a point-wise manner. Laboratory practices are important in medical practice. This book consists of twenty-one different chapters. Different methods are being used for the collection of blood. Ways of obtaining capillary/peripheral blood and venous blood are covered in this book. Methods for Hb estimation, colorimetric methods of hemoglobin estimation, Specific gravity method and Noninvasive screening tests for Hb estimation are dealt in detail. There are different methods available for total RBC count, total WBC count, absolute eosinophil count and platelet count. Packed cell volume can be measured using macrohematocrit method using wintrobe tube and microhematocrit method using capillary tube. It also includes erythrocyte sedimentation rate, peripheral smear examination, reticulocyte count, osmotic fragility test and LE cell phenomenon, heinz body, hemosiderin, methemalbumin and hemoglobin. Indications, diagnostic, contraindications, complications and needles for bone marrow aspiration and trephine biopsy are explained. Principle, procedure, reagents and equipments for cytochemical stains, hemoglobin electrophoresis, thrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time and prothrombin time are explained in a simple way.
