Abstract

There are various parasites that affect lungs are metazoan, ancylostoma duodenale (hookworm), ancylostoma braziliense (cutaneous larva migrans), ascaris lumbricoides, filaria organisms, paragonimus species, schistosoma species, strongyloides stercoralis, toxocara canis, trichinella spiralis, entamoeba histolytica, pneumocystis jiroveci and toxoplasma gondii. Pneumocystis is an opportunistic fungal pathogen that causes an often-lethal pneumonia in immunocompromised hosts. Pulmonary involvement occurs in 3 to 28% of the cases of plasmodium falciparum malaria and represents the most serious complication of this infection with a lethality of about 70%. Trichinellosis is a parasitic infection caused by tissue-dwelling Trichinella roundworms and is associated traditionally with ingestion of pork from-infected domestic swine. Schistosoma infection is one of the most common infectious diseases limited in the past only to the endemic countries.
