Abstract

The connective tissue disorders (also called collagen vascular diseases) are a heterogeneous group of immunologically-mediated inflammatory disorders, including systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis, progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS)/systemic sclerosis (SSc) and ankylosing spondylitis, with a large variety of affected organs besides the lungs. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is the most common connective tissue disorders (CTD). Progressive systemic sclerosis or SSc is a multisystem disease characterized by fibrosis of the epidermis and dermis (scleroderma) and fibrosis of other organs, including kidneys, lungs, heart, gastrointestinal tract and skeletal muscles.
