Abstract

Behavior management is the means by which the dental team effectively and efficiently performs treatment of the child and at the same time, installs a positive dental attitude. Behavioral dentistry is an interdisciplinary science which needs to be learned, practiced and reinforced in the context of clinical care and within the community oral health care delivery systems. Most behavior is learned during childhood and child behavior reflects in one or other form during adulthood. The study of human behavior does not lend itself to randomized controlled clinical trials. Hence it is very difficult to say that one technique of behaviour management is better than the other. This chapter deals with various types of behaviours encountered in dentistry and their management. The behavioural management techniques are divided into non-pharmacological and pharmacological means.
