Abstract

The MRI of knee joint has been discussed with meticulously labeled images in coronal, sagittal and axial sections. The general features of knee joint articular surface, articular capsule, ligaments, muscles attachments, arteries, veins, nerves are highlighted and depicted on the MR images. The knee joint is a modified pivotal hinge joint. It consists of two condylar joints between the femur and tibia and a saddle type joint between the femur and patella. The ligaments and muscles make the knee a very stable joint. The cruciate ligaments in the knee joint, menisci and synovial capsule are seen very well on MR imaging due to unparalleled soft tissue resolution.
