Ultrasound is the backbone of modern obstetrics and gynecology practice. The book “Donald School Textbook of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology” is distributed into three sections. Section one deals with a variety of topics that lay the foundation for the rest of the book like safety of ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology, development of 3D ultrasound, artifacts, pitfalls and normal variants, routine use of obstetric ultrasound, and medicolegal issues in obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound. Section two addresses the myriad subtopics in obstetric ultrasound that optimize the care of pregnant women and fetal patients. They are fetal and maternal physiology and ultrasound diagnosis, ultrasound markers of implantation, normal and abnormal early pregnancy, ectopic pregnancy: diagnosing and treating the challenge, sonographic determination of gestational age, trophoblastic diseases, first-trimester ultrasound screening for fetal anomalies, fetal anatomical survey during second-trimester screening examination, fetal biometry, ultrasound and Doppler management of intrauterine growth restriction, fetal central nervous system, pathology of the fetal neck, detection of Limb malformations—the role of 3D/4D ultrasound, the fetal thorax, three- and four-dimensional evaluation of the fetal heart, application of spatial and temporal image correlation in the fetal heart evaluation, etc. The last section addresses the essential role that ultrasound plays in the many dimensions of clinical gynecology. These include normal female reproductive anatomy, uterine lesions: advances in ultrasound diagnosis, ultrasound and uterine fibroid, etc.
