Abstract

The eyes are the most prominent aesthetic and functional unit of the face. Blepharotosis is a common and complex eyelid anomaly. The complexity of the eyelid anatomy and the need for precise and meticulous adjustments of the eyelid position make ptosis one of the most challenging disorders to understand and correct. Much has evolved in the understanding of ptosis and its treatment. This chapter gives a summary of the evolution of the ptosis surgery, the pathophysiology of different types of ptosis, an algorithm of its surgical management and recent advances in the management of the blepharoptosis.
