Abstract

Nystagmus is defined as regular and rhythmic to-and-fro involuntary oscillatory movements of the eyes. The term nystagmus derives its origin from the Greek word,” nystagmos” which describes the wobbly head movements of a sleepy individual. Nystagmus can be the presenting symptom or even the only symptom of serious Neurological disorder. It occurs due to disturbance of the factors responsible for maintaining normal ocular posture. These include disorders of sensory visual pathway, vestibular apparatus, semicircular canals, midbrain and cerebellum.
