by Harikrishnan S

The book “Percutaneous Mitral Valvotomy” mainly developed to give a review of rheumatic mitral stenosis and to provide a handbook for operators who are performing percutaneous mitral valvotomy. This book is very useful for those actively involved themselves in the care of patients with mitral stenosis. This book is mainly divided into seven sections which include introduction, evaluation prior to percutaneous mitral valvotomy (PMV), PMV—procedure, technical considerations and peri-procedural monitoring, PMV techniques and gadgets, complications following PMV, PMV in special situations and ended with long-term outcome following PMV. Fifty chapters of the book include different aspects of mitral stenosis including pathophysiology, pre-intervention assessment and technical considerations during balloon valvotomy and outcomes following intervention. It explains rheumatic heart disease which is one of the major problems found in developing countries. Management of mitral stenosis with percutaneous balloon mitral valvotomy, indications and contraindications for PMV are discussed in detail. Technical aspects of different PMV procedures like trans-septal puncture, PMV and intracardiac echocardiography imaging are given along with the steps.
