Abstract

This chapter provides detail description of diet and exercise in pregnancy. The chapter has 27 diagrams and pictures. Energy requirements, in utero origin of adult diseases, recommended total weight gain, essential fatty acids, iron deficiency anemia and supplementation, requirements of vitamins, minerals and trace elements, lactation, exercise in pregnancy, postpartum exercise are described in detail. 11 tables are included to highlight appropriate BMI cut off for estimated equivalent fat tissue proportions, recommended total weight gain in pregnant woman, recommended ALA, omega3 and dietary sources of polyunsaturated fatty acids, cut off value for anemia for women and modified heart rate target zones for aerobic exercises in pregnancy. 6 references are given at the end of chapter to facilitate further reading.
