Coccygodynia is a symptom which refers to pain in the vicinity of the coccyx and it is frequently found in middle aged women. Subluxation or hypermobile coccyx is mainly associated with coccygodynia and it is mainly caused by direct trauma. There are two types of coccygodynia: acute and chronic. Chronic pain is seemed to be a major sign along with burning sensation in the rectal area during defecation, sexual intercourse or menstruation and it may lead to exhaustion, depression, and lack of sleep also. Usage of U-shaped cushion, physical therapy and maintenance of proper erect posture during sitting position are key factors which should be followed in the management of coccygodynia. Stool guiac test, radiograph, dynamic radiograph, advanced imaging modalities and provocative test are used in the investigations. Conservative therapy has significant effect in the management of acute and chronic coccygodynia. Sacrococcygeal joint mobilization, local injection, coccygeal manipulation, prolotherapy and coccygectomy are invasive procedures followed when conservative therapy has no effect.
