Patients are forced to seek medical care during acute painful episodes with or without neurological deficits and received varied diagnoses related to abnormal anatomy. The patient experiences an acute episode of spinal pain with a chronic history of repeated microtraumas. The role of the inflammatory phase is to remove injured tissue and promote regeneration of normal tissue structure and physiological function. Reduce swelling, promote healing, educating the patient on postures and positions, reducing patient’s pain, maintaining the patient’s general mobility and restoring AROM are the goals of a physical therapy program. The causes of spinal pain are varied and multifactorial. Clinical examination is done to evaluate potential movement faults, the quantity and quantity of spinal AROM, selectively reproduce the patient’s pain and obtain specific signs. Fluid filled inclinometers are used to measure spinal active range of motion and examination is continued with appropriate neurological testing. Anti-inflammatory medications and modalities such as ice and electrical stimulation are recommended as a treatment. Apart from these, this chapter discusses on different first aid positions that helps to reduce their pain level.
