Abstract

Both tissues as well as cellular grafting techniques are usually supplemented with some form of phototherapy or photochemotherapy to improve the cosmetic outcome at the recipient site. The idea behind employing phototherapy after the surgical procedure is to stimulate and/or cause a proliferation of the donated melanocytes at the recipient site. Phototherapy and photochemotherapy have been used as adjuvant therapies in miniature punch grafting, suction blister grafting (SBG), split thickness skin grafting (STSG) as well as in different cellular grafting techniques, and complement the surgical procedure in enhancing the final outcome. Phototherapy in the form of NBUVB and excimer lasers or photochemotherapy with PUVA and PUVASOL can be used as supplemental therapies to improve the cosmetic results achieved in both cellular as well as tissue grafting techniques in vitiligo.
