Abstract

Lasers are now becoming an integral part of dermatological practice in India. Many dermatologists starting new dermatology practice seek to include lasers in their practice. Lasers, when used with care by properly trained operators in carefully designed environment, can deliver a range of useful cosmetic treatments. The laser theater facility, also called controlled area laser requires careful planning keeping in mind safety of both patient and operator and convenience of operating and optimum handling of costly equipments. This includes planning for location, dimension, nonreflective and laser opaque surfaces, lighting, electrical requirements and air conditioning, ventilation and smoke evacuation, uninterrupted power supply (UPS), operation table or chair, operator’s chair, eye protection devices, pre-laser and post-laser kits, surgical instruments, sterilization of devices, asepsis and emergency management system.
