Abstract

Isolation of patients has been recognized as one of the modes of prevention of transmission of infectious agents since time immemorial. Isolation precautions are a set of preventive measures instituted to reduce the rate of healthcare associated infections, which have been proven to increase morbidity, mortality and healthcare costs. These measures are a way of controlling the spread of multidrug resistant organisms and to reduce antimicrobial resistance, which is a global health crisis today.
