This chapter outlines the general care of the injured patient, the basic principles of treatment of a patient with severe maxillofacial injuries, the basic ABC to be followed for the preservation of life of the injured patient, and the management of soft tissue injuries. The ABC includes: (a) maintenance of patency of the airway, (b) control of hemorrhage, and (c) maintenance of circulation. The soft tissue injuries includes different types of soft tissue injuries which include abrasion, contusion, hematoma, laceration, incised wounds, penetrating or punctured wounds, crushed wounds, gunshot wounds and their management with photographs. The supportive therapy and factors modifying healing process are briefly mentioned at the end of the chapter.
