This chapter deals with various aspects of the presently employed older and newer modalities of imaging technology. Various diagnostic modalities such as ultrasonography (USG), computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), radionuclide bone scanning or scintigraphy which are widely used in the most affluent countries and some places in developing countries, are outlined in details in simple language and with colorful images. The comparison of conventional radiography, CT scanning and MRI is nicely given in a tabulated form for the benefit of the students and the practitioners. The advantages, disadvantages and the techniques are mentioned for each imaging modality. A number of high resolution and colorful images are used for better understanding. Newer concepts like 3-D reconstruction of the images of various parts of facial skeleton and Dentascan are mentioned.
