Bedside Cardiology

The book focuses on the bedside cardiology, heart disease conditions and various symptoms associated with them. The first part of the book generally discusses about bedside cardiology, its classification, cardinal signs in congenital cyanotic heart disease, minor symptoms and cardinal symptoms in cardiovascular system, congenital left-to-right shunt, congenital cyanotic heart disease. Various other syndromes such as Marfan syndrome, Down syndrome, hypersensitivity, etc. are briefly discussed. Second part of this book covers the detailed discussion on clinical instrument like stethoscope and its advancement and different types available, pulses such as jugular venous pressure (JVP) and arterial pulse, blood pressure measurement, palpation, heart sounds, ejection and non-ejection sound, murmur and its dynamic auscultation. Heart sounds are classified as first heart sound (S1), second heart sound (S2), third heart sound (S3), and similarly fourth heart sound (S4). Finally, the book also discusses on the clinical assessment for pulmonary hypertension, segmental approach in congenital heart disease, clinical approach for congenital cyanotic heart disease, and some other clinical approaches such as tetralogy physiology and Eisenmenger physiology. ASD, VSD, PDA, survival, Eisenmenger complex, poor prognostic markers, and cause of death due to Eisenmenger syndrome are discussed.
