Abstract

Cardiac arrhythmias are considered one of the most common causes of sudden cardiac death worldwide. There has been a steady progress in the development of treatment modalities for arrhythmias and a greater progress has been possible with the electronic devices rather than the drugs. The slow development has been because of the involvement of multiple factors in the genesis of arrhythmias. Various antiarrhythmic drugs are explained. Classification of the various antiarrhythmic drugs is discussed. Recent studies are presented.
