Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases are the largest causes of death worldwide. Cardiovascular diseases are amongst the most intensely studied of the health hazards. They have also attracted significant attention of behavioral scientists. The many ways in which these diseases are affected by environmental, social and behavioral factors have provided a fertile ground for study by many disciplines. Thus, many cardiovascular diseases are considered as prototype psychosomatic diseases (also called neurovisceral diseases). The brain-heart connection is explained with behavioral pattern, stress and cardiovascular diseases; depression and heart disease; mental stress-induced ischemia; stress and sudden death; stress-induced cardiac dysfunction, and so on.
