Abstract

Laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is most commonly used for the treatment of refractive errors due to its quick vision recovery and more stable refractive result. As the success of LASIK procedure has grown, the desire to combine the optical capabilities of LASIK with other surgeries has also developed. This chapter discusses discuss the combination procedures used with LASIK either by initial design or by necessity after a prior procedure. The various combination procedures used with LASIK discussed are on-flap photorefractive keratectomy, phakic intraocular lens, posterior chamber intraocular lens and penetrating keratoplasty. Sometimes the desired result is not possible with one procedure alone and hence combination procedure with LASIK has to be planned from the beginning of the surgical planning process.
