Abstract

Filamentary keratitis (FK) refers to a chronic condition, characterized by the formation of filaments that adhere to the corneal surface. Patient complains of ocular irritation, photophobia and foreign body sensation. Common condition associated with FK is aqueous-deficient dry eye syndromes. Others associated conditions are enlisted in a table. Pictorial representations of KF with post penetrating keratoplasty, ocular cicatricial pemphigoid and aqueous tear deficient dry eye with blepharoptosis are given. Pathogenesis of the disease is described in detail. FK being difficult to treat can be managed to relieve symptoms. Conventional therapeutic methods are enlisted in table. FK can be managed from simple mechanical removal of filaments to certain complex procedures. Various studies that enrolled patient aiming towards filament regeneration are complied.
