Abstract

Endothelial keratoplasty (EK), deep lamellar endothelial keratoplasty (DLEK), Descemet’s stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK), Descemet’s stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK), and Descemet’s membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) are the various techniques used in corneal transplantation. DSAEK or DSEK is the most commonly performed EK procedure today. DMAEK is a hybrid technique that combines the donor stability and ease of insertion of DSEK along with the excellent visual results achieved with DMEK. With DSEK there is reduced risk of complications like suprachoroidal hemorrhage, better structural integrity, faster and predictable visual rehabilitation, and fewer, if any, ocular surface complications. The chapter explains the surgical technique of DSAEK/DSEK, DMEK, and DMAEK.
