The book discusses the need of haematology. It is divided into five sections. It gives a brief about the physiology of blood, various approaches to diagnose anaemias, reason for the cause of anaemias, bleeding disorders, blood transfusion, myelodysplastic syndromes, acute leukaemias, myeloproliferative neoplasms, chronic lymphoid leukaemias, plasma cell dyscrasias, malignant lymphomas, and haematopoietic stem cell transplantation. It also explains the causes, diagnosis, clinical features, laboratory features, differential diagnosis, pathogenesis, and treatment for various types of anaemias caused due to impaired red cell production and excessive red cell destruction. It also emphasizes on serologic techniques (like ABO grouping and Rh grouping) and microbiologic techniques (like reverse passive haemagglutination assay, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, radioimmunoassay, recombinant immunoblot assay and venereal disease research laboratory test; these microbiologic techniques mainly help in the detection of hepatitis, HIV, syphilis and malaria. All these topics in the book are well summarized with flowcharts, table contents, images, and graphs.
