Abstract

Phototransduction is a process by which light is converted into electrical signals in the rod cells, cone cells and photosensitive ganglion cells of the retina of the eye. There are two types of photoreceptors distributed across the retina: rods and cones. Rods and cones function in dim and bright light respectively. Rhodopsin is the pigment responsible for absorption of light.
