This manual deals with the chapters about Biosafety, Chemical Hazard, Radioactive Materials Hazard, Healthcare-associated Infections, Biocides and Waste Management. The purpose of this manual is to be a resource for information, guidelines, policies, and procedures that will enable and encourage those working in the laboratory environment to work safely and reduce the potential for exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive materials hazard. Chemical hazard is an event resulting in the release of a substance hazardous to human health or the environment. The United Nations Economic and Social Council issues Chemical listing and documentation of IDLH values. Radiation mainly emerges from Alpha particles, Beta particles, Gamma rays and X-rays. Radioactive materials must be packaged and transported according to standards specified by DOT and NRC or DOE. This manual also explains about microorganisms and their role in diseases. Biocides are chemical agents that inhibit the growth of microorganisms which are infectious to the host. Biocides are both disinfectants and antiseptics. The management of Healthcare Facilities waste depends on good administration along with adequate legislation, financing and active participation of trained staff. Personal protective equipment should be maintained while handling. Staff those who are handling the wastes must be appropriately protected by vaccination, including vaccination against hepatitis A and B and tetanus.
