Abstract

Speckle Tracking Echocardiography (STE) filters out random noise produced by interaction of sounds waves with tissues, keeps the temporally stable speckles with their unique image pattern, and then tracks blocks of speckles from frame to frame using block matching. Speckle tracking is angle independent and overcomes some of the shortcomings of TDI are summarized in this chapter. Cardiac muscular anatomy, cardiac mechanics, strain, two-dimensional Speckle Tracking Echocardiography (2D STE), image acquisition, clinical application of 2D STE, three-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (3D STE), clinical applications of 3D STE and limitations of speckle tracking echocardiography are described in detail. 8 tables are included to highlight. 18 comprehensive and self-explanatory images are included in this chapter. And 78 references are given at the end of the chapter to facilitate further reading.
