Abstract

This chapter will review a systematic approach to the 2D transesophageal echocardiographic (TEE) examination. It provides important diagnostic information and is commonly used to assess for etiology of stroke, suitability for cardioversion from atrial fibrillation, and to assess cardiac and aortic pathology when high-resolution imaging is necessary. In addition, TEE is an important adjunct to surgical and percutaneous cardiac procedures. A careful process for performing a comprehensive study is discussed in this chapter. 22 comprehensive and self-explanatory images are included in this chapter. And 7 references are given at the end of the chapter to facilitate further reading.
