Abstract

This chapter will briefly discuss the evolution of 3DE and then focus on the fundamental principles underlying 3D echocardiographic image acquisition. Topics that will be covered include: transducers, beam forming, limitations of 3DE image quality, and the use of 3DE for the quantification of mitral valve anatomy and left ventricular function. 15 self-explanatory and comprehensive images are included in this chapter. And 40 references are given at the end of the chapter to facilitate further reading.
