Abstract

This chapter describes the use of echocardiography to assess cardiac hemodynamics and guide therapy. Echocardiography can potentially provide adequate alternative hemodynamic data, which are more accurate than the physical examination without the risks of invasive monitoring. This chapter covers the essential topic like Right Atrial Pressure or Central Venous Pressure, Pulmonary Artery Hemodynamics, Left-Sided Filling Pressures, Additional Parameters for Estimation of Left Atrial Pressure, Stroke Volume, Stroke Distance, Cardiac Output and Systemic Pulmonary Shunts. Each topic is described with color images. 18 self-explanatory and comprehensive images are included in this chapter. 111 references are given at the end of the chapter to facilitate further reading.
